Special Thanks to Our Volunteers
We want to give a HUGE thank you to all who joined us over our 3+ years at Metropolis, whether as volunteers or as guests! We could never have accomplished such a massive feat without the incredible support of our local community. We met together every Wednesday and Sunday, with volunteers organizing and bagging groceries, preparing and cooking hot meals, and so much more. Thank you to ALL who helped make it all happen!
Metropolis Weekly Community Outreach
At Metropolis we were given a unique opportunity to put love into action in our community. We were serving hundreds of bags of groceries on Wednesdays and nearly 150 hot meals to-go every Sunday for the most vulnerable in Santa Monica. Our seniors and neighbors experiencing homelessness needed us then. And we needed your partnership. The state and city officials deemed our food pantry and serving the underprivileged at Metropolis as ‘Essential Activities’ during the pandemic. We believed that it was essential for us to step up to meet the critical needs of the poor with unquestioned generosity. And so, with MUCH support, we did.
SUNDAY TAKEOUT MEALS
Hot takeout meals were served each Sunday to 100-150 local seniors & those in need.
Most Sundays we also handed out hygiene and personal care items.
Volunteers cooked & packaged the food onsite, gathered from what we were able to receive weekly from the food bank or local stores, or purchase with donations.
We had a rotating group of about 20-30 volunteers that donated of their time one or more Sundays a month, and were always welcoming any who wished to show up.
WEDNESDAY FOOD PANTRY
Every Wednesday morning we handed bags of groceries out to about 60 of our senior neighbors.
Every person got 4 bags of groceries: produce, cans, bread-type items, and dairy.
We had about 10-15 volunteers that helped with everything from picking up the food, to sorting and putting together the bags, to safely handing them out.
