Important Announcement:
The final days for our Sunday Lunch Outreach and Wednesday Food Pantry for 2022 will be December 18th and 21st.
As Metropolis will unfortunately be closing our doors at 603 Arizona Avenue at the end of January 2023, we are unsure if we will be able to resume these outreach activities for the month of January. Please check back for up-to-date information here or on our Home page after January 1, 2023.
And a HUGE thank you to all who have joined us over the 3+ years here, whether as volunteers or as guests! We could never have accomplished such a massive feat without the incredible support of our local community.
Metropolis Weekly Community Outreach
At Metropolis we have been given a unique opportunity to put love into action in our community. We are serving hundreds of bags of groceries on Wednesdays and nearly 150 hot meals to-go every Sunday, for the most vulnerable in Santa Monica during this time. Our seniors and neighbors experiencing homelessness need us right now. We need your partnership. The state and city officials deem our food pantry and serving the underprivileged at Metropolis as ‘Essential Activities’. We believe that it is essential for us to step up to meet the critical needs of the poor with unquestioned generosity. We have many opportunities to help someone else who needs us right now, and you can be a part of it if you desire (send us a message below). Let’s be there for one another!
SUNDAY TAKEOUT MEALS
Hot takeout meals served each Sunday at 1pm to 100-150 local seniors & those in need.
Most Sundays we also hand out hygiene and personal care items.
Volunteers cook & package the food onsite, gathered from what we are able to receive weekly from the food bank or local stores, or purchase with donations.
We have a rotating group of about 20-30 volunteers that donate of their time one or more Sundays a month, and are always welcoming any who wish to show up & help.
WEDNESDAY FOOD PANTRY
Every Wednesday at 10am we hand groceries out to about 60 of our senior neighbors.
Every person gets 4 bags of groceries: produce, cans, bread-type items, and dairy.
We have about 10-15 volunteers that help with everything from picking up the food, to sorting and putting together the bags, to safely handing them out.
Want to be a Part of Our Mission?
To do this every week, we rely completely on volunteers, some food donations by food banks or select local stores, and financial donations from our individual team members and the community. If you would like to volunteer, register or send us a message below. If you would like to be part of our team, but are not able to volunteer in-person, consider giving a financial donation to support our efforts! All donations are tax deductible.
Weekly expenses:
Each week, in addition to what we are able to secure from the food bank and other donations, we need to purchase the following:
Drinks (we supply a variety of sodas and water for our guests to choose from)
Supplemental food items (we often need to supplement what we are able to pick up to create a complete meal)
Containers, bags, utensils.
Gloves, masks, and other safety equipment.
The total for all of these items can be up to $200 per week. Consider donating to help us continue to serve our guests well each week!
Our Needs List
These are some of our most pressing needs to be able to care for those to come to us for assistance well. If would like to collect or purchase any of these items, you can deliver them to Metropolis on Wednesdays (9-10am) or Sundays (11:30am-2:30pm).
